Bat And Trap

Bat and Trap is a traditional Kent pub game, given a twist by our club and a new set of rules to keep it fun and to keep it short.

Two teams are selected to battle it out to try to achieve the most runs.

The batters on the batting team each have three turns to strike the trap, lifting the ball, which they then bat down the field.

The batter may choose to try a side swipe or stand behind the trap for a two handed strike.

If their ball passes between the two posts at the far end they have scored a run.

If it goes off to the side it is not a run, and if it does not reach the posts it is not a run.

Any bowler on the opposite team can then bowl the ball back to them from between the posts.

If the bowler knocks down the flap on the front of the trap the batter is out and their turn ends.

If the flap is knocked down after the batters third turn it has no effect as the bowler has already retired.

If a ball struck by the batter should be caught by the opposite team without it having touched the ground then the batter is out although they can still have that run if the ball passed between the posts..

After three strikes of the ball a batters turn ends and the next batter takes over.

Mishits are counted as a turn if the ball is struck with the bat.

After all the batters on the batting team have had their three turns (or have been caught/ bowled out) the teams switch places and the bowlers become the fielders.

After both teams have had their turns the game ends, or if time allows, a second innings may be played by both teams.

Runs for both teams are counted at the end of the game.

Good Luck!
